Sassy Birch 4th of July BBQ Plate

Blog+4.jpg

Nothing says fourth of July like barbecue.  And there isn’t really a more meat-centric American meal that I can think of.  Being a vegan at a BBQ is a lot like being a hummingbird in a buzzards nest.  All you want is nectar, but the only things being served are… Dead.  Also everyone wants to know ‘what exactly do you have against bacon anyway???’ So fun!

Usually when I go to a BBQ, I’m either only eating a select few side dishes (if I’m lucky), or I’m bringing a vegan patty of some kind with me… Which I typically, awkwardly, request to have tossed onto the grill next to the ‘real’ meat, where it sits and quietly burns as no one pays any attention to it. Yummo!

I don’t know about you, but I certainly would like to have the option of eating something that people look at and go ‘hey that looks good’!  Instead of the pity side-eyeing of my salad, corn, and burnt garden burger plate that I usually receive.  Luckily I have found just the solution; Sassy Birch “Not Just Jerky!” Truly. Not only does it taste amazing and is super similar to pulled pork, it’s pretty easy on the eyes too…. wink.  And yet, unlike many other meat-replacements out there right now, Sassy Birch doesn’t use any highly processed proteins or chemicals in its ingredients.  Only pronounceable items like Jackfruit, veggies, beans, grains, seeds, and spices.  And unlike traditional pulled pork which can literally take hours to cook, Sassy Birch “Not Just Jerky” only takes about 10 minutes.  Add water, heat, and boom – done!

I like to drown mine in barbecue sauce because I’m a savage, but you can eat it straight and it will still tickle your taste buds – trust me.  After all, each flavor packs enough punch to stand solidly on its own.  Just look at these beautiful barbecue plates featuring Sassy Birch’s BBQ “Not Just Jerky.”  Who wouldn’t be proud carrying that around at a party?  Make your meat eating friends jealous and order today to get your bag(s) delivered before the 4th of July.

For a recipe on how to make this check out the directions below.  This is probably the simplest recipe we will ever have on the site as it’s just our basic rehydration technique.  Seriously, anyone can cook this, and just about everyone can enjoy it since we don’t use gluten, soy, or nuts in our ingredients!  Video instructions coming soon, stay tuned!

All of our "Not Just Jerky" flavors can be cooked up in minutes and used in your favorite recipes, or served solo - as seen on our Barbecue Plate. Cooking with Sassy Birch couldn't be easier, it's not just a snack it's your next meal!

Ingredients:

  • 1 oz 'Not Just Jerky' + 1/3 Cup of Water
  • or
  • 3 oz 'Not Just Jerky' + 1 Cup of Water
  • or
  • 5 oz 'Not Just Jerky' + 1-2/3 Cup of Water

Instructions:

  1. To cook, simply mix your 'Not Just Jerky' (any flavor) and recommended water amount in a saucepan, bring to a boil, and then reduce to a simmer.  Simmer for ~ 10 minutes, or until most of the water has been reabsorbed.  Serve!
  2. The nice thing about this product is that it's super forgiving.  If you cook it and it's still too tough, just add more water and cook it a bit longer.  If you add too much water by accident, it doesn't matter, just keep cooking it until the water is cooked down.  It won't get mushy :).
  3. Some tips!  For dishes where you'd like a bit more texture, try reducing the amount of water used, and that will help maintain some of the chew that's naturally associated with our jerky.  For dishes that require a bit of sauce, just add a bit of extra water, and don't cook it all off to leave a pre-seasoned sauce on your "Not Just Jerky".  Also!  You can try adding the jerky directly into your dishes, for instance if using the jerky in a chili or pasta sauce, you can just toss it in dry and cook it with the other ingredients.
  4. Have fun, and enjoy!
